Dorothy P. Thomas, Esq. is the Founder and Managing Partner of The DP Law Firm. A graduate of Mercer University School of Law, Dorothy has built a career representing individuals, corporations, and insurance companies in a wide range of complex legal matters. Her litigation experience includes general liability, premises liability, negligent security, construction litigation, products liability, and other high-stakes cases. She has also successfully handled litigation involving catastrophic injury and wrongful death across the United States.
Dorothy began her career defending corporations and insurance carriers, gaining an insider’s perspective on the strategies often used to minimize or deny valid claims. She now uses that knowledge to advocate for individuals and families, ensuring their voices are heard and their rights protected. In addition to her personal injury practice, she is an accomplished criminal defense attorney with a proven track record of achieving reduced charges, dismissals, favorable plea agreements, and not guilty verdicts.
She is admitted to practice law in Georgia, including before the Court of Appeals of Georgia, the Supreme Court of Georgia, and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Middle Districts. Based in Atlanta, Dorothy balances her professional life with personal passions. She enjoys running, baking, and spending time with her family, friends, and her dog, which help her stay grounded while she continues her dedication to serving clients with skill and compassion.
Ashley Belance is a Legal Assistant at The DP Law Firm and a second-year law student at Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School. Originally from Miami, Ashley brings a vibrant energy and diverse perspective to the firm. Her professional background spans operations, marketing, and real estate, equipping her with exceptional organizational skills and a keen ability to identify practical solutions to complex challenges. Ashley’s experience in these fields has strengthened her strategic thinking, attention to detail, and client-centered approach, all of which she applies to her work in the legal field.
